    Help! Any suggestions?

    Hi,

    I have a P4 3.2 processor, ATI Radeon X1900XT 512 card and 2048 RAM.
On the lowest settings the SC4 game barely runs at all, on higher settings I can't even scroll, I'm getting 2 frames per minute when loading the big city tutorial for example.

SC4 is the only game on my computer that acts like it's on a 386 processor with no graphic card and no ram at all, everything else works ok except for Sim City 4 + Rush Hour.

I can run GTR2 at the highest settings with 35-40 fps for example.

I'm new to this forum and I haven't read all the threads in it, any help and/or suggestions or links that might clear things up for me would be greatly appreciated.

Try removing running programs that are not essential before entering the game. On the far right of your taskbar there should be icons of programs running. If that doesn't help, remove the rest of them. They will come back after a restart I promise. Even remove antivirus but make sure to disconnect the internet. I have 512MB and I don't have these kind of problems. I do have issues on large cities but I just need more memory. If you still have issues, take it to the PC doctor to take a look at it. You may have a lot of spyware or something. I know hackers love taking advantage of huge, fast computers and it sounds like you have one.

I appreciate the suggestions but that's not the case here. I don't use the same computer for internet as well as for games (I also allready tried those things, I even reformated the hard drives and reinstalled the winxp, with no difference noticed). I have a computer that's only for games and doesn't have any network connections, anti viruses or other programs in it other than drivers and games. And besides, the same computer with an older graphic card in it works better while playing SC4, this issue came after I switched from an ATI Radeon X800XL to an X1900XT. Plus all my other games, without exception, work better with the newer card than with the older one. It's just SC4 that acts like this.

I read something about SC4 vs. ATI cards here, but still doesn't justify the extreme slowness with the newer spec Radeon.

I'm hoping for someone that had this issue and corrected it to share the solution. Otherwise I'll just be waiting for Sim City 5, right now I don't even have the game installed anymore since I can't play it, I'm only gonna reinstall it if I can make it work before Sim City 5 hits the shelves, somewhere in the 3rd quarter of 2008 I hope.

I think it's your vid card. A lot of games have hardware incompatability with ATI or Radeon. I can't play halo on my Geforce Card because Gearbox is in cahoots with Intel. They don't run them because they can't, but because the developer places restrictions.

    That sucks!

I wrote to ATI a while back and they replied by giving me the finger ...sort of, I gave them the finger back by telling them that I'm determined to switch to Nvidia after three ATI-Radeon cards that I've owned in about 4 years, without problems up to this X1900XT that I've bought last summer.

Next year I'm gonna aim for an 8800 Ultra. Maybe!

    P.S.
Am I the only one fed up by this constant and insane need for constant hardware upgrades just to be able to run, let alone getting the eye-candy, in any newly released game?
