Earn chances to win a $25 gift card by participating (drawing to be held 2005-08-01)

On August 1, 2005 I will be holding a drawing for one $25 gift card from a major retailer of the winner's choice (provided the store exists in my area and it isn't Walmart). If the winner would prefer, instead of a gift card, I am willing to pay the $25 prize via PayPal.

For every ten posts a member makes to the SimCity Forum, they will get one entry into this drawing. Also, for every new member an existing member recruits during the month of July, the recruiting member will get five enteries for this drawing (the new member must make at least five posts).

The more you post, and/or the more new members you recruit, the more chances you have to win.

Posts made and/or members recruited during the month of July will be counted towards accumulating entries in this drawing.

Please note that posts to the "This or that threads" will not count towards post counts for the purposes of determing the number of entries for this drawing. I think these posts kind of violate the spirit of this contest.

May I ask how the people are chosen? Like, do you put little pieces of paper in a hat, or do them by computer, or what?

I use a database query to figure out how many entries each member gets. I then write each member's database ID # on to pieces of paper (one piece of paper per entry). I then put the pieces of paper into a container shake it up and draw a piece of paper out with my eyes closed (or have my wife do it for me). Whom ever's ID # is drawn wins. Using pieces of paper for the drawing ensures that things are truly random, whereas a computer is never truly random.
