Anyone who has played SimCity 4 to any extent has experienced multiple crashes to desktop, resulting in lost game play. As such most of us have learned the hard way to saving frequently is important. There are, however, some things we can do to avoid crashes. This thread is for discussing ways to reduce SC4 crashes to desktop. I'll update this post as new suggestions are posted.

  • Overloaded transit enabled lots: Due to a bug in SimCity 4, some transit enabled lots that have maxed out their traffic loads can cause a crash to desktop if the cursor moves across the lot. The best way to deal with this is to monitor traffic levels and implement bypasses for these lots to reduce traffic volume to these lots. For subways and rail stops this means building a sidetrack around the stop so that only that excess traffic can go around rather than through a given transit enabled lot.
