Awww man ;-;
This sounded really fun, but it looks like I'm a couple months too late. Oh well, not REALLY that good at SC4 yet anyway.
This challenge has no deadline, so you are not too late to get started. If anything you have the advantage of learning what other members did to their cities and knowing what worked and what didn't work.Originally Posted by Izquirdo

I tried to post this in the corresponding folder, or whatever you call it, but it wouldn't let me. :confused:
Anyway, For a new Challenge Idea, what if you design a region with considerably challenging landscaping...mesas perhaps... and see who can create the best population, best environmental ratings, and best population of specified areas (the most challenging areas) and have the only stipulation (other than no cheats) as you are unable to alter the landscaping in any maner other than what the buildings do by themselves. What do you guys think?![]()

You can't add new cities to the region or create land masses in unincorporated areas of the region. You can, however, change terrain within existing cities as long as this done via the terrain tools under the mayor's tool menu. You can also modify land using the tool that reconciles land between cities in the god mode. You just can't modify land via the terrain tools in god mode (which have been disabled by fact that the cities have been incorporated.

I now have another update.
Northfield is progressing nicely. It has 54,905 inhabitants and 27,280 jobs. My funds are a lovely $447,418 similones. This is also the first city in the region with an international airport.
Westport has progressed the fastest thus far. To reduce congestion due to the lack of highway here, I built almost all avenues instead of roads. It has a 22,022 population, 14,610 jobs and $739,817 similones. I didn't to much landscaping here, I wanted to keep most of the hills for artistic reasons, also it's powered only by wind.
Great Wass did't offer much as far as space goes, despite extensive boarder extentions I used it up very quickly. It's population is 21,376 with 10,061 jobs and fund of $124,088 similones. It is connected to the rest of the region by 2 car\passenger fairy terminals.
'fairy terminals.'
XD
After what was a several month break from this challenge, I finally tackled another city in the region. This time I tackled Bartlett Islands. From time to time when I had been working on other cities in this region I would spend a little time doing infrastructure work on this city. I ended up spending several hundred thousand simolians on raising and leveling the land such that there was a place to build a city. When I finally post my completed region, I think everyone will beby just how much raising and leveling of land I ended up paying for throughout the entire region.
My Bartlett Islands ended up turning into a very affluent city. Land values are very high and the population density isn't as high as some of my cities because too many people live in single family mansions. From almost the first year I had this city running a profit. From the very start this city started with a well established infrastructure of roads, bus stops and water systems. I quickly added ferry terminals and a seaport. I then made sure all industry had good transportation routs to the seaport. Starting with a smaller residential area in the beginning I focused on zoning dense industrial and dense commercial areas, which were quickly occupied due to economic demand generated by adjoining cities.
I've now played this city to the year 35 and it has a population of 58,000. Its population has begun to top out due to a lack of space to expand to. I think once I finish the other cities in this region and come back to this one, I may be able to use the overall economic power of the entire region to increase the population of Bartlett Islands, but I might be hard pressed to get its population above 100,000. Currently for the entire region my population is approaching 900,000 with only Litchfield and Southport being the only cities that have not been started.

Wow, I haven't even looked at that region since school started. I'll probably work on it this weekend some more...

AHHHHHHHH! My computer has lost it's mind. I'm serious... the hard drive somehow got corrupted and it's existance is no longer aknowledged by the rest of the machine. I'm told that not much is going to be salvageable because it's really screwed up.
The worst part though is that I'm going to have to start the challenge all over again because I didn't save my progress to any other source than my hard drive.
