    Adding some ads

Every now and then there have been discussions about me not having ads on this site. It just hasn't been a very big priority for me to add ads to this site as it is mostly a hobby and my other sites subsidize this site.

Lately because of the economic situation, ad revenues for me from my other sites is way down and I need to try to squeeze a few extra coins where I can. I don't think AdSense ads make sense for this site, but Amazon.com does have some ad blocks that make automatic recommendations based on the user's buying habits at Amazon.com and the content of web pages.

My hope is that a couple of ad blocks won't be too distracting and that if the ads are relevant to the user's interests they won't be too annoying.

Oh and if you do buy stuff from Amazon.com, please do so through my ad blocks so that I can earn some extra coins.

Thanks for the post. Yeah, when I entered this site today I noticed the change immediately.

Don't worry though; I don't think it is too distracting.

I'd prefer the advertisements over loosing the forum.

    Thanks Ken.

I'm thinking of replacing the Firefox promo with a Vonage ad as I use them and I can earn up to two months free service from them for every person I sign up. The problem is their ad graphics are kind of annoying.

I won't be bothered by 'em.

Do what needs to be done!

I'll be swapping ads around some and testing new things out. The Amazon ads weren't generating any revenue and the past two years of recession has taken a toll on my overall ad revenues from all of my sites combined. Hopefully I don't make the ad placements too intrusive and I'm sure those who hate ads the most are already using some sort of ad blocking.

I will be leaving the Amazon link for SimCity4 Deluxe in place. This is kind of useful for our friends who may not have it yet. ::

In another tweak I decided to make the banner ads visible only to those who are not logged in (e.g. guests). Logged in users will only see the "buy SimCity" box graphic in the nav bar.

I think this change will be met with approval by the residents of SimCity Forum.

I think it will, and it'll probably make a few guests want to become members just because the ads ARE EVERYWHERE. Haha, just kidding :P

Epicly Awesome. You should have a text box underneath, saying that if you hate ads, become a member!
